DIY Family Growth Chart

After three years, I finally got around to making my own DIY growth chart for my family! I had always seen these adorable growth charts on Pinterest and Etsy and had it on my to do list forever! Read below to find out how to make your one of your own.

You will need:

Step 1: Get a board! I got a scrap wooden board from my father in law. I wanted mine to be narrow, but you may want a wider board. My board is also not very tall, only 5 feet, you may want a 6 foot board.

Step 2: Stain or paint your board for your project. I used a leftover wood stain I had to stain my board. I let it dry for a few days before stenciling.

Step 3: Make the ruler/ measurements for your board. You may choose to do this free hand, or you can use a stencil. I have a Cricut machine so I purchased a stencil template from Etsy. I cut the stencil myself and used it to make the measurements for my board. They do have actual growth chart stencils that you can purchase on Amazon or Etsy if you are not able to cut your own. Depending on the type of stencil you use, you may need to use tape to keep it in place. I used white acrylic paint to stencil the measurements onto my board.

Step 4: When the paint is completely dry, attach hanging brackets to the back of your board. I attached sawtooth picture hangers on the back of my board.

Step 5: Before hanging your board, make sure you are positioning your growth chart correctly on the wall. Most growth charts start at 6 inches, so be sure you measure 6 inches from the floor to determine where the bottom of your board should fall on the wall.

Step 6: Measure your kids! I decided to just mark yearly birthdays for my children. I used a paint pen to mark their height. I put their initials and their age by the designated heights.

I am so glad I FINALLY made my own DIY growth chart. It really was quite easy! I love that I can easily take this down and move this precious keepsake if we ever move to a new home.

Do you have a growth chart in your home? I would love to see it!
