You may be wondering what in the world is a breast milk brick? A few years ago, someone told me about this efficient storage method and I couldn’t be more grateful!
Brick storage is a great space saving way to store breast milk in the freezer. Brick storage is also a great way to organize your milk and keep track of how much milk is in your “milk stash.”
You will need:
- Breast milk storage bags, I love the Lansinoh brand
- Gallon Ziploc slider bags
- Permanent Sharpie marker
- Freezer (use a deep freezer for freezing milk longer than 6 months)
- Put breast milk into breast milk storage bags in 3, 4 or 5 oz quantities.
- Freeze bags laying flat in the freezer
- Put 10 frozen bags of breast milk into a gallon storage bag to create a breast milk brick. Make sure you write the month and year on the gallon bag.
- You now have milk bricks that have 30, 40 or 50 oz per bag.
I always refer to KellyMom for breastmilk safety guidelines! They have so many great resources on their website.
I also want to thank Haakaa for making my freezer stash possible! I use the Haakaa on the opposite side that I am nursing on to collect breast milk. It was a total game changer for me when it came to breast feeding!
I hope this storage method not only helps you save space but also helps you keep you organized.
