A Surprise a Day While We Are Away

My husband and I recently went on a trip away together. This trip was five days long and the longest time we had been away from our three babies before, so I wanted to make sure I did something special for them while we were gone. I decided to leave them a surprise a day while we were away. This was so easy to do, and basically free as we had most of the materials already. Read below for five ideas you could try next time you go on a trip.

You will need:

  • Envelopes
  • Notecards
  • Marker/Pen
  • Coins
  • Milky Way Candy
  • Stickers
  • Paper
  • String

Envelope 1: Piggy Bank

My children love putting change in their piggy bank. For day one, we gathered some coins, put them in the envelope, and told them to put them in their piggy bank for our next trip together as a family.

Envelope 2: Sticker Fun

My children LOVE stickers. These sticker packs were $1.00 each, and I just cut out a few sections to put in the envelope.

Envelope 3: Sweet Treat

For our third envelope, we decided to leave a sweet treat! I liked the “we love you to the milk way and back” saying but you could definitely choose another candy and saying.

Envelope 4: Holding Hands

I saw this idea on Pinterest and I thought it was adorable. Trace your hand on paper, and then tell your child to trace their hand on the cut out hand to pretend like you are holding hands. I thought this was SO sweet.

Envelope 5: The Fun Things We Did

My children can not read yet and can really only write their own names, so I decided to have them draw a picture to tell us about what they did while we were gone. I simply wrapped a piece of paper with string and put it in the envelope for them to use for their picture.

My children really enjoyed these little surprises each day we were away on our trip. They were really excited to show us their drawings and tell us about what they did while we were gone. What surprises would you add to a surprise a day while we are away?
