This year we decided to make Santa salt dough ornaments for Christmas and they came out SO CUTE! Not only are they adorable, but they are fairly easy to make.
You will need:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 1/2 cup of warm water
- Acrylic paint
- Black sharpie
- Parchment paper
- String or Ribbon
- Butter knife
How to make:
- Preheat your oven to 300 degrees F.
- Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
- Add dough to a floured surface.
- Roll out the dough.
- Have your child create their handprint in the dough. Try to have them spread their fingers out and push down firmly.
- Cut around the hand print with a butter knife.
- Make sure to put a small hole in the top of each handprint for a ribbon or string. I used a straw for this.
- Add handprints to baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Place into oven for about an hour or so depending on the thickness of your ornament. Be sure to flip them over about half way.
- Once dry and cooled, paint with acrylic paint. We used a sharpie to make black details.
This was enough dough to make about four toddler handprints.
These ornaments are a wonderful keepsake to remember how tiny your children’s hands were. Don’t forget to write their name and the year on the back of your ornament.
BONUS: These special ornaments also make a great gift for grandparents.
