Oh the Places You’ll Go is one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books. For Read Across America week, I have my students dress up as what they would like to be when they grow up. If you have younger kiddos, you may want to brainstorm ideas with them ahead of time to give them ample time to come up with their outfits!
Along with dressing up, we do a fun craft-ivity which was inspired by the hot air balloons in the book.
You will need:
- Glue
- Crayons
- Scissors
- Marker
- Printed photo of child
- 9×12 Construction Paper

1. Print out the Oh the Places I’ll Go Craft-ivity FREEBIE along with a printed photo of each child. Write the letters of the child’s name on the clouds.
2. Let your child decorate their hot air balloon however they would like before they cut it out. You may need to help younger children cut out their hot air balloon.
3. Children will write about the places they will go (what they want to be when they grow up). Again, you may need to help younger children with this portion and write for them.
4. Glue the hot air balloon along with the writing to a 9×12 piece of construction paper. Add the picture of the child to the hot air balloon basket.
5. For younger children, have them place the clouds in the sky to form their name. Be sure they have the clouds in the correct order before pasting them down.
This activity is part of the Read Across America Practice Preschool Curriculum.
I would love to see all of the places you’re children hope to go! Feel free to tag me on social media @tayloredtoteach so I can see all of their hopes and dreams!
