It’s spooky season! My kids have been really enjoying listening to Halloween tunes like Monster Mash, and it inspired me to create the Feed the Monsters activity!
I have seen people do a similar activity with shapes, but our activity works on color recognition.
You will need:
- Paper Grocery Bags
- Do-a-dot Markers
- White & Black Construction Paper
- Pen/Marker
- Scissors
- Glue
- Colorful Pouch Tops
- Use one color Do-a-dot markers on each paper bag to create a specific color monster. I let my kids do this because they love dotting away! While they were dotting, I cut out white eyes and black pupils for monster eyes out of construction paper.
- Let your child decide how many eyes they want their monster to have. Let them paste the eyes on the paper bag. Draw and then cut out a mouth on each bag.
- Stand the bags up on the floor.
- Fill a bucket with pouch tops. You can definitely use something else, we were working on colors, so pouch tops worked well for this.
- Have your child feed the monsters pouch tops that match the color on the bag. The orange monster gets orange pouch tops. The purple monster gets purple pouch tops etc.
We worked on color recognition, but you could easily adapt this to work on shapes, letters, numbers, etc.
Would your child enjoy feeding the monsters? If you try this out be sure to tag me! I would love to see all the monster fun.
